Jenni Kayne Loves Jane Birkin, Loathes Anything Too Trendy

The Los Angeles-based designer shares a page from her style notes.

Jenni Kayne

Jenni Kayne is known for creating simply chic, It girl-worthy pieces—her D’orsay flats, for instance, are much beloved by Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson and Jessica Alba. Here, the Los Angeles-based designer reveals the secrets to her signature look.

Define your style in two words: Effortless classic.

Daily uniform: High-waisted Acne jeans, Jenni Kayne mules, and my new cashmere/jersey sleeveless tank.

Greatest hits: D’orsay flats, brown Gravati loafers, and vintage lace.

Finishing touches: Robert Lee Morris knuckle ring, Mannin monogram pinky ring, The Row cat eye sunglasses, and a PB 0110 cross body bag.

Nighttime look: Slacks and a long tunic from my Spring 2015 collection with a pair of classic black Céline pumps.

Best recent discovery: Victoria Morris ceramics, Earth Tu Face rose face balm, Good Eggs granola bars, PB 0110 handbags.

Favorite stores: I love my stores, of course, but my other favorites are March, Heath Ceramics, Lost and Found, and Creatures of Comfort.

Style pet peeve: Wearing workout clothing all day or anything too trendy.

Style icons: Kate Moss, Grace Kelly, and Jane Birkin.

Last purchase: A black silk, high-waisted, ankle-length skirt with matching bra top by Valentino.

Lusting after: The perfect vintage Hermès Constance bag.

Favorite haunts: There in Telluride, Colorado; Elf in Silverlake, California.

What’s always in your bag: Earth Tu Face balm, Hourglass or NARS lipstick, Hope Gillerman essential oils, Hermès day planner, sunglasses, EO hand sanitizer.
