If China is the way of the future, Diane von Furstenberg wants to make sure that said future includes plenty of wrap dresses. ”Diane von Furstenberg: Journey of a Dress,” on view at the Pace Gallery’s Beijing outpost April 3 to May 14, will present portraits of the designer (like the one above by Francesco Scavullo, from 1969, as well as others by Andy Warhol, Francesco Clemente, and Zhang Huan) alongside a selection of her frocks. “When my children were growing up, it was ‘The Chinese make everything,’ and now it’s ‘The Chinese buy everything,’” von Furstenberg says. “I want to develop a great business there.” Judging by the fact that she’s opened two DVF boutiques in Beijing in the past eight months, she’s not wasting any time.
