Earlier in the evening, the night’s honoree, power producer Lynda Obst, paid homage to Nora Ephron, whom she called her mentor, telling the story of the time shortly after the two met when Ephron asked Obst to take a look at a rough draft of an article she had written. “I said it was perfect,” recalls Obst. “Nora said, ‘I think you would make a good magazine editor.'”
