Back in 2016, Kendall Jenner showed the world a small tattoo in the unlikeliest of places: the inside of her lower lip. Debuting the new ink on her tattoo artist’s Instagram, she shared that she had gotten the word “meow” etched permanently on the inside of her mouth, although she didn’t explain why. Two years later, Jenner has finally revealed the inspiration behind this cryptic tattoo: She was drunk.

The model got candid about the hidden ink during her Thursday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In the clip, which you can watch over on Entertainment Tonight, Jenner pulls down her lower lip to reveal the word, which is almost as legible as it was the day she got it, remarkably. “I was drunk!” she explained, laughing, when DeGeneres asked her why she got the ink. “I was not thinking, clearly,” Jenner explained.

Like the rest of the audience, DeGeneres wanted to know, why “meow” and why on her lip? “It was literally the first thing that came to my mind,” Jenner admitted. “I don’t know—just like, my drunk thoughts… I felt like it would have been a good place to put something—I mean, it is something I don’t want said. Never mind. Forget it—I was going to say, like, a boyfriend’s name or something.”

As for whether lips are the “worst place” to get a tattoo, as DeGeneres assumed, Jenner made sure to set the record straight. “Nope… it’s just, like, fattiness—I don’t even know what this is, is it muscle? Fat?—but it’s not, like, bone. Bone hurts really bad.” Like her two finger tattoos: one white broken heart (to match with her friend Hailey Baldwin’s) and one white dot. “My first one was a white dot, because I just wanted to know what it felt like,” she said. “All my friends have them—I was just like, I wanted to know what it feels like. You can’t see it, but that’s kind of the point.”

As for what kind of alcohol Jenner likes to imbibe before inking: it’s tequila. Later in the interview, the model revealed that while her family opts for over-the-top parties (like Khloé Kardashian’s extravagant, all-pink baby shower, she and Kourtney Kardashian prefer to have fun a much more chill way.

“My family, and especially my mom, and Kim, and Khloe, and Kylie, they love to go all out,” she said. “I think it’s literally just me and Kourtney that are like, ‘I just need tequila and I need a pizza.'”
