Despite her forceful presence, Marina Abramovic didn’t break free of her mother’s oppressive household until she was 29 years old. That story is retold by the theater director Robert Wilson, with a score by Antony Hegarty, in The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic at the Park Avenue Armory in New York (December 12 through 21). Abramovic, 67, who costars with Willem Dafoe, plays herself and her mother—which means she gets to have the last word.
