W‘s beauty director visits manicurist Madeline Poole.

Madeline Poole

Manicurist Madeline Poole was all over New York Fashion Week, painting nails for Adam Selman, Cushnie Et Ochs, and Eckhaus Latta. Before the madness began, she invited me to her SoHo studio for a sneak preview of the wave design she created for Selman’s show using black and wine-colored swooshes of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish atop bare nails. “If you’re in a big hurry, negative space is the way to go,” said the 28-year-old of the look. “You don’t have to wait for any base coat to dry.” When she’s not working on runway shows or photo shoots, Poole is busy creating shades for Sally Hansen as its global color ambassador. “I was thinking about a polish that, like Pop Rocks candy, would have tiny explosive beads of color in it,” she mused when I asked her about her latest ideas. “As you paint it on, the rocks would pop and make splotches on your nail!” I’d buy it.
