For the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2015 show, designers Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier provided hair and makeup artists with very specific inspiration imagery. “In the mid ‘80s, early ‘90s it was dangerous to go on the subway and so there were the Guardian Angels—these people that had red berets and badges and were there to protect people,” explains Guido Palau. “It became a great style in a way and that was one of the references.” Coating the hair with Redken Full Frame Mousse and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist, Palau created crunchy, stringy strands that dangled down from berets. “It’s that ‘80s bad kind of hair, where you put mousse in it and just let it dry,” he says. Makeup artist Diane Kendal, meanwhile, lined models’ eyes with black Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel and used Magic Marc’er liquid liner to create a sharp point at the edge. O!Mega Mascara defined top and bottom lashes while New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel in Moody Margot gave lips a neutral cast. For the nails, manicurist Elisa Ferri fused three new Fall 2015 shades that were custom-made for the show: One Shade of Grey, Black Flag, and It’s Not Easy Being Green. “It’s very specific,” she says of the punky result.
