In the film Allied, Marion Cotillard plays Marianne Beausejour, a French spy married to Canadian intelligence officer Max Vatan (Brad Pitt). But in real life, the actress knows she'd make a terrible spy, as she's a bad liar. So, when she says that the film Step Brothers, starring Will Ferrel John C. Reilly, makes her cry, or that Andy Garcia and Sofia Coppola's scene in The Godfather: Part III is her favorite love scene of all time, you better believe it.

In your new film Allied, you play a spy. Do you think you'd make a good spy?
I would make a terrible spy. I don't like to lie.

Really?
No. I don't want to lie, not that I don't like to and I don't want to.

But you're mysterious.
Am I mysterious?

Sometimes.
Okay, I'll take it. I'll take that I'm mysterious. I don't know. But no, I could definitely not be a good spy.

Did you enjoy playing a spy?
Yeah, I loved it playing a spy. She's an okay spy in this movie, not like the top, top spy that is dedicated to her work. She has too much of a big heart to be a good spy. She needs love. She's gonna get it.

Speaking of love, what's your favorite love scene in a movie?
The first thing that comes to my mind because I thought it was super sexy, it's Andy Garcia and Sofia Coppola I think making pasta, um, gnocchi in The Godfather. I thought it was so hot, yeah. But a love scene... well I have to say that I think it's really Diane Lane in Unfaithful, the love scenes, not the lovemaking, but the whole foreplay – that's how you call it?

What movie always makes you cry?
I cry watching Camille with Greta Garbo. I have to say, that while it might sound weird, it will be weird, but there is one movie I always laugh in and at the end of the movie I always cry and I saw it like 10 times. It's Step Brothers.

When do you cry at Step Brothers?
At the end when he sings. It touches me. I mean, you don't expect to cry watching the kind of comedies but I do. But there are so many movies that makes me cry... I try to remember the last time I cried watching a movie. I don't remember.

Probably on a plane. People always cry on planes.
Yeah, it's easy to cry on a plane.

I think people feel alone somehow with the movie and a plane; it's interesting.
And the alcohol.

And lack of oxygen.
Alcohol, lack of oxygen can make you cry in front of any shitty movies.

Who is your girl crush?
Amy Adams. I think she's a genius. I watch everything she does. I cannot wait to see the last movie but I think she can do anything. I think she's amazing. But there are so many actresses that I love. I think Jennifer Lawrence is a prodigy, I think Elle Fanning is absolutely amazing. Cate Blanchett, of course. Toni Collette is one of my favorite. I have a passion for actresses. The list is going to be very, very long.

Last question: where was your first kiss?
My first kiss was in the geography room, where you put all the maps. I actually don't know how to say it in English. It's la resérve [in French]. It's like this tiny room where nobody ever goes and where you stock, things, pens. Most of the things that were there were maps of the world and countries and that was it.

Were you surprised?
Uh, it was really, really wet. Yeah. I think this guy had too much saliva. Maybe it must have been his first kiss too, I don't know, but it was super wet. I didn't really like the very wet thing. But he had a good taste at least. I liked this boy so it was more about having this you know special relationship than the kiss itself. Yeah, it's a good, wet memory.
