Rose Gilroy, Rene Russo’s Daughter, Sits Front Row at Salvatore Ferragamo

The 23-year-old model touched down in Milan for her first ever fashion week abroad. “It’s been the best introduction,” she said.

Last spring, Rose Gilroy was living that low-key college student life as she was getting ready to graduate – well, as low-key as it gets when you’re the daughter of actress Rene Russo and director and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Dan Gilroy.

Two months later, she signed to Elite Model Management after being scouted in L.A., and this weekend, she was in Milan, courtesy of Salvatore Ferragamo, sitting front-row at their spring 2017 show on Sunday afternoon.

“I’ve always had an interest in fashion and wanted to be part of it somehow,” said the 23-year-old, who studied political science and psychology. “This is my first fashion week abroad, and it’s also my first time in Milan. It’s been the best introduction.”

First impressions?

“It’s similar to New York in the sense that there’s a lot of energy and grind – everyone’s moving all the time through the city,” she said. “Milan has an old world feel, there’s much more sense of history.”

She’s enjoyed simply wandering around the city, she said, but made sure to visit the Duomo – Milan’s famed cathedral: “You can’t miss it. Beautiful, isn’t it?”

Though she stayed hush about any details, Gilroy has something in the works with Salvatore Ferragamo (which presented an “internal” collection, having yet to name its creative director, following Massimiliano Giornetti’s departure).

“I have some exciting stuff coming out that I can’t really say, but I’m excited,” she said of the project, launching in early October. “It’s just such a beautiful brand and so fun at the same time. I feel like, especially today with the clothes, they’re keeping the essence of the brand, but they are always finding a way to make it more modern.”

After seeing the newest collection, she has her eye on the floral-patterned pieces.

“The movement in them is so beautiful, and what is awesome about Ferragamo is that you can mix and match things. It can be casual or fancy, if you want it to be, but it’s always elegant,” she said, donning jeans with a black and white Ferragamo blouse, strappy, red heels and a small, rainbow-colored bag.

After the show, she plans to get gelato. “A must,” said Gilroy, who gets on a plane to the U.S. today.

Another must for any first timer: “Getting pasta,” she said. “Anywhere.”
