Who’s The Boss?

Quincy Jones’ grandson Sunny Levine continues the family legacy, with a little help from aunt Rashida Jones.

Sunny Levine

Imagine your grandfather is Quincy Jones. Expectations would be practically paralyzing if you were to step into the producer’s booth. But L.A.-based Sunny Levine’s debut album Volume 1, out December 8 under the moniker Boss Selection, is a smooth, assured affair, with plenty of retro disco and R&B vibes and a distinctly Californian sense of ease. Musicians like Pete Yorn lend their vocals to Levine’s production, though the most delightful performer is actually his aunt Rashida Jones, who absolutely kills the R&B track “Flip and Rewind.” “I’ve always known she can sing,” says Levine, 36. “Now everybody else does, too.”
