The Fifth Estate

Benedict Cumberbatch celebrated his latest role in appropriate style.

Benedict Cumberbatch

What: A Cinema Society and Richard Mille-hosted screening of The Fifth Estate, a thriller based on the story of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Where: The film was shown at the Crosby Street Hotel; the after party was at Sean MacPherson’s much-anticipated new Marlton Hotel.

When: Friday, October 11th.

Who: The movie’s star, Benedict Cumberbatch, was joined by a hoodie-clad Ian McKellen, Freida Pinto, Lee Radziwill, Paul Haggis, Calvin Klein, Ross Bleckner, and Salman Rushdie.

Why: Controversy creates buzz and what could be more provocative than the real life Assange sending Cumberbatch a letter pre-production, attempting to discourage him from doing the film? He later called the British actor a “hired gun” when he went ahead with the project.
