I’m looking forward to photographer Carrie Mae Weems’ latest exhibition, Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video which opens at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, in Nashville, this Friday. Long overdue, this is the first major museum retrospective devoted to the work of Weems, whose moving images speak volumes about race, gender, and African-American classism.

Chromogenic print with etched text on glass, 26 1/2 x 22 3/4 in.*

Organized by the Frist, the exhibition will show about 225 photographs, including a number of never-exhibited works as well as more well-known pieces like her famous Kitchen Table Series.
