On Monday evening, just hours before the polls opened on the east coast, the fashion crowd descended on New York’s Spring Studios for the annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards ceremony. Models like Martha Hunt and Hailey Baldwin, musicians like Solange Knowles, a cadre of American designers, and presenters Zendaya Coleman and Michael Kors all arrived to celebrate the announcement of the newest Fashion Fund winners, Brock Collection’s Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock. (#ImWithHer references were also sprinkled throughout the evening’s speeches, because with one day to go till the elections, politics were on the brain.) Runner-up prizes of $150,000 went to Adam Selman, a favorite designer of both Rihanna and Sufjan Stevens, and to Krewe du Optic’s Stirling Barrett. The various stars in attendance sported looks by their designer-dates: Hailey Baldwin in Baja East; Olivia Munn in Tanya Taylor. But it was Zendaya, in a stunning Spring 2017 Michael Kors Collection frock, who was the true prizewinner of the evening.

Who: Zendaya Coleman.

When: Monday, November 7.

Where: The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards honoring Brock Collection and hosted by Zendaya and Michael Kors at Spring Studios in New York, New York.

What: A blue floral-embroidered dress with cut-out sides and bat-wing sleeves by Michael Kors from the designer’s Spring 2017 collection.

Why: Model Carolyn Murphy closed Kors’s Spring 2017 show in this very design. And while, during the runway show, the dress’s silhouette just skimmed her ankles, showing off a pair of white platform sandals, on Zendaya, the dress pools around her feet, creating a stunning, ethereal effect. The exaggerated folds of the dress contrast with the revealing cutouts to goddess-level effect. (Plus, for something so elegant, it looks really comfortable. Comfort is key.) Combined with simple, center-parted hair, a strong brow, neutral makeup (a simple glossy lip will do just fine), and delicate pearl earrings, Zendaya proves, as the evening’s presenter, she’s the real winner.
