There are few jewelry motifs as instantly recognizable as David Yurman’s Cable. Designed over four decades ago, the twisted shape has become an enduring signature of the New York-based jewelry house. Now, the motif is being reimagined by David’s son, Evan Yurman, in Sculpted Cable — a collection that transforms the familiar form into fluid, graceful silhouettes.
For Sculpted Cable, Evan drew inspiration from architecture and bas-relief sculpture – deconstructing the original Cable and transforming it into a carved, sculptural form. Its elegant design references the S-curve, a shape found in nature and historically known as the “line of beauty” for its refined proportions.
The Sculpted Cable collection is marked by a distinct sense of movement, achieved through meticulous craftsmanship. Artisans carve the collection’s S-shaped fluting so that each curve follows the same precise arc, before the pieces are cast in precious metal and hand-polished to maximize shine. On diamond styles, brilliant-cut stones are individually faceted and set by hand.
The newest evolution, Sculpted Cable Flex, brings an element of ease to the collection. Its innovative, flexible construction allows the jewelry to bend naturally with the body, while hidden hinges and clasp-free shapes make bracelets, rings, and necklaces effortless to slip on and off.
It’s a fitting progression for a house founded by artists. David Yurman, a sculptor, and Sybil Yurman, a painter and ceramicist, began collaborating with the goal of creating beautifully designed objects to wear. Today, the brand's classical forms and motifs continue to be refined in new collections.
