Kai Schreiber Braves the NYC Citi Bike in Heels

Kai Schreiber has a solution for biking in heels. It involves putting on a way-too-dressy outfit, enlisting someone else to pedal, and balancing in the front basket. Wobbly and potentially disastrous? To be sure. But for the 17-year-old model, it’s a transportation hack that works in a pinch.
On Tuesday, the ascendant runway star and daughter of Naomi Watts was spotted on her way to take fresh digitals for her portfolio with IMG Models, just in time for New York Fashion Week. Wearing a polka-dot minidress and face-covering shades, she refused to compromise her footwear for the sake of practicality, choosing glossy slip-on stilettos to complete the look. With subway lines unreliable and Uber prices exorbitant, Schreiber opted for an always-trusted—and increasingly chic—mode of transportation: the Citi Bike.
Over the course of the summer, the New York Citi Bike has become a fixture of low-key celebrity excursions. It’s been the preferred vehicle for A-list couples on date nights, from Dua Lipa and Callum Turner to Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. It’s been cosigned as an effective means of daily transport by screen stars like Hugh Jackman and Sarah Pidgeon. And of course, it’s long been a go-to for established New York City It girls like Julia Fox and Jennifer Lawrence, who are known to embark on two-wheeled outings in the face of time constraints.
Back in June, Kim Kardashian even chose photos from a Citi Bike outing to finally confirm her new relationship with F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
On her latest outing, however, Schreiber added new levels to Citi Bike chicness. With a vape and an iPhone in hand and a utilitarian-dressed friend doing the work of riding, the star reframed biking as a decidedly glamorous endeavor. It may be precarious, but it sure looks good. Just don’t try this at home. Citi Bike policy officially mandates a one person-per-bike rule.
