Meryl Streep Method Dresses as Both Miranda and Andy

Meryl Streep is stepping back into the stilettos of Miranda Priestly for The Devil Wears Prada 2, and her latest press look, unsurprisingly, is right on trend. What else could we expect from an editrice of her stature?

En route to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Streep wore a bold animal print coat by Sarah Burton for Givenchy. Its of-the-moment spotted leopard fabric brought a some wild flare, and its proportion was just as dramatic. It featured an oversized pussy bow detail up top, billowing sleeves, and an elongated hemline.

Streep continued to lean into trends with the resto f her outfit. She signed onto the skinny jeans renaissance with a pair of tight black trousers that looked painted on. And because a proper Priestly look wouldn’t be complete without a work bag, Streep carried Demellier’s Hudson top-handle, a style that’s been worn by the likes of Katie Holmes and Emily Ratajkowski recently. She finished the look with sling backs, cat-eye glasses, and some posing befitting of the pages of Runway magazine.

Streep had a surprise in store underneath her leopard top layer. When chatting with Colbert, the actor wore a cable knit sweater from J.Crew. The color? Cerulean, duh.

It looked like an exact replica of Andy Sachs’s infamous knit from the 2006 original, minus the white Oxford below.

Though Streep’s personal styling skews closer to the polished, exacting aesthetic favored by Priestly, it’s clear that she and her stylist Micaela Erlanger appear to be toying around with the idea of method dressing. For the sequel’s first press appearances in Mexico City, Streep wore a Schiaparelli shirt dress and a Dolce & Gabbana power suit in a devilish shade of red.

It’s the kind of wardrobe that would earn a rare nod from Priestly herself.
