Skinny Jeans Are Back—Here’s How to Wear Them Now

Jean silhouettes and fits are constantly in flux. From swinging ’60s flares, to ’90s-style JNCOs, to the super-low rises of the early aughts, denim shapes have always been a sign of the times. These days, thanks to the internet and Gen Z’s joyful nonconformity, the fads move fast—and there are more denim trends than ever. One that we’ve been especially keen on lately is skinny jeans—yes, you read that right.

In 2024, the calf-hugging denim style resurfaced at Miu Miu and in 2026 they played a big role in Michael Rider’s Celine. Since then, skinny jeans have appeared in a number of shows for men and women—at Prada, Dior, Gucci, and Valentino—to the joy (or dread, depending on who you ask) of serious fashion devotees.

For those who have been living in baggy boyfriend styles for the past few years, the return of tskinny jeans may elicit fear, or at least an eye roll. The key to making them feel modern is the styling. For 2026, designers have offered plenty of inspiration – from voluminous tops that offset slim bottoms to equally sleek extras. Below, check out eight ways to style skinny jeans, according to the runways.

Go Glam

At Gucci, Demna’s looks leaned into the gauche-glamour of skinny denim. The designer paired a light-wash style with a slim turtleneck, pointy pumps and a faux-fur scarf.

Long and Lean

Emphasize the elongated shape of slim jeans with sky-high heels and a floor-sweeping overcoat.

The Going Out Top

At Dior, Jonathan Anderson put a high-fashion spin on the classic early-aughts going-out look: skinny jeans and a sparkly top.

Extra Volume

A cropped, voluminous coat on top balances the slim proportions of high-waisted skinny jeans, seen here at Balenciaga.

We love the contrast, seen at Celine, of simple slim jeans and a tank, mixed with a festive, beaded belt.

White Noise

Prada showed skinny jeans in a variety of colors and patterns at its spring 2027 menswear show. We’re partial to this all-white look, anchored by heavy brogues and a thick belt slung around the waist.

For Fall, 7 For All Mankind was on the forefront of the skinny jeans revival. The brand styled skinnies in the manner of an early-aughts It girl: with super high platform heels and an extra long scarf.
