Supers like Kendall Jenner and the Hadids typically lead the parade of models at Anna Sui, but for fall 2020, the designer opted to cast some of the fresher faces of New York Fashion Week. (Along with a few runway vets like Imaan Hammam, Lexi Boling, Issa Lish, and Adut Akech.) Sui also got a bit more macabre than usual, kicking things off by casting a blood red light over the cavernous Spring Studios. (It shone so brightly that at first glance, it appeared as though the models—whose lips were also painted blood red—had dyed their hair.) Between the many chokers and velvet evening gloves, the collection took on a sort of vampy elegance. One model, who wore a baggy, black sequined gown and gloves to match, even wore horns atop her head. But most of Sui’s nods to the ‘70s horror films like Daughters of Darkness and Black Lace that inspired her this season were less explicit. Head backstage for a closer look, here.
