Gio’s Journal: L.A. Story

1
“My boyfriend, Vlad, wanted to ride bikes in Venice Beach and told me I had to bring comfy clothes. I said, ‘I don’t have comfy clothes’—but I did have leopard jeans, and I went to Niketown to get some sneakers and then had to buy this supertouristy sweatshirt. I felt so American, riding a bike dressed like that. I’m practicing ‘chilling.’ ”
2
“While on vacation in L.A., we had lunch by the Beverly Hills Hotel pool. I love the contrast of lemon trees—which are super-Sicilian—with these iconic Californian palms.”
3
“Here’s Florence Azria’s dog Lolita in L.A. She put her in a mini Birkin, and Lolita looked so comfortable. I wish I were a dog in a Birkin. Life would be so much easier.”
4
“I am obsessed with Tegu—they’re little magnetic wooden blocks—so I built a car out of them and posed with it in my glamorous gold Louboutins, just so I could say, ‘This is not a Car Shoe.’ ”
5
“This installation of Os Gemeos’s work at the Prism gallery in L.A. caught my eye. I hope the art duo knows that women aren’t like caged birds!”
6
“Vlad did a show of artist Nicolas Pol’s work in a very classic Upper East Side townhouse and removed all the furniture but kept this leopard. Then Nicolas put a riding helmet on it. In the whole exhibition, the only thing I could afford was the helmet!”
7
“I recently discovered Fellini’s Book of Dreams—I didn’t know he did such great sketches! They remind me of Alber Elbaz’s drawings for Lanvin. They have the same joie de vivre.”
8
“We had this cool Nicholas Varney gold jewelry for a shoot all lined up on a tray, and while I was having my coffee, I decided to style the cup. The world would be a better place if Starbucks cups could be bejeweled, no?”
