On the Streets of Milan, It’s All Gucci, All the Time

Milan Fashion Week started on the highest of high notes with Gucci’s Spring 2017 show on the first day. The unimpeachable king of Italian fashion, Alessandro Michele’s designs set the tone for the spring/summer season in Milan — and for Milanese street style. His trademark gauzy, Renaissance-inspired layers and cursive scrawl of “L’aveugle par amour” embroidered on silk bombers appeared around the city on fashion avatars like Anna Dello Russo — and, of course, your average chic Italian. Even where Michele’s designs were absent, Milan street style was still dominated by strong shoulders, cascades of ruffles, and, of course, some fine Italian leather.
