Go Backstage With Bella Hadid and Winnie Harlow at Prabal Gurung Fall 2019
Prabal Gurung’s fall/winter 2019 show on Sunday night marked the midway point of New York Fashion Week, though, as Gurung proved, there’s plenty more still to come. There was a bit of New York in his latest collection, but for the most part, Gurung—who was born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu—took inspiration from his recent travels through India and Nepal. There were bold hues, from magenta to turquoise, mixed with earthier tones like army green, but somehow the mix didn’t feel forced: tie-dye, cargo pants, and puffer jackets managed to blend in with pattern-heavy evening wear, much of which came complete with Taj Mahal motifs, ostrich feathers, and brocade woven in Varanasi. And, as usual for Gurung, the cast was arguably just as stand-out as the clothes: Candice Swanepoel continued reasserting her reign since giving birth to her second child last year by snagging the show’s closing spot, after her fellow Victoria’s Secret models Winnie Harlow, Duckie Thot, Taylor Hill, and Bella Hadid made cameos on the runway.
