Prada’s Defiant Spring 2018 Collection Made a Feminist Statement
Leave it to Miuccia Prada to prove that a fashion show can be more than just, well, a fashion show. For her Spring 2018 collection, the designer looked to empowering women, as she so often does, with a focus on strong, military-inspired pieces, without leaning too literally into the idea, and instead err-ing more punk than army. There were terrific trenches, cropped jackets, and sleek trousers, done in chic neutral hues with splashes of vibrant detailing, including magpie-like embellishment and some animal print thrown in for good measure. There was also plenty of pop, courtesy of screen-printed cartoons placed on the back of trench-coats and across classic workwear button-downs. It was the same artwork that served as the show’s backdrop, with large-scale drawings covering the walls of Prada headquarters. What’s more: every single cartoon and manga drawing came from the hands of a female artist. Here, an insider’s look at the Prada Spring 2018 collection.
