Valentino’s Grand Gesture

In the hearts of many New Yorkers, 945 Madison Avenue is still the home of the Whitney Museum of American Art, but on Wednesday night Valentino transformed the Marcel Breuer-designed building into a decadent event space to celebrate the brand’s new flagship store in New York, and Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first Haute Couture collection, which will debut in Paris in January for the spring 2015 season. Sofia Coppola, Katie Holmes, Olivia Munn, and Vanessa Traina turned up in their Valentino finest to watch a fashion show of all white looks inspired by Valentino Garavani’s 1962 Sala Bianca collection. After the runway presentation and the reveal of The Five Senses, an experimental installation curated by Francesco Bonami and dedicated to Italian artist Piero Fornasetti, 945 Madison Avenue was once again transformed: this time, into a dinner and dancing space.
