In Christopher Kane’s Space Age, the Uniforms Come with Fur-Lined Crocs
Since setting off for the Viennese countryside and discovering the Gugging Gallery, a psychiatric clinic-turned-artist residency, in 2015, Christopher Kane has been wrapped up in the world of outsider art for a few seasons now, even making a gallery out of his local London store. For Fall 2017, though, Kane widened his lens much further—all the way up to the galaxies, with Space Age prints inspired by the Romanian artist Ionel Talpazan, who claimed to have been seeing UFOs since he was 8. Amidst the spacecrafts and slick, silvery foils were also plain old traditional florals and lace—not to mention some of Kane’s ever show-stealing Crocs, which this time around were wrapped fur-wrapped rather than crystal-bedazzled, and sharing the runway with heels topped off industrial foam and yes, pieces of yellow kitchen sponge.
