Ann Demeulemeester Comes Back

The designer celebrates her new book at Barneys.

by Karin Nelson

Ann Demeulemeester

What: A book signing with Ann Demeulemeester, followed by a performance by Patti Smith, who penned the foreword.

When: Wednesday, October 29th

Where: Barneys New York

Who: Model Jamie Bochert, designer Robert Geller, photographer Max Vadukul, and a swarm of black-clad Demeulemeester disciples.

Why: A member of Antwerp Six, Demeulemeester, who quietly bowed out of the fashion game last year, initiated a tough, romantic aesthetic that resonated with people looking for a little poetry in their tailored jackets and trousers. The downpour didn’t deter them from coming out to meet the dark queen of Belgian fashion—and hear her friend and #1 fan Patti Smith perform hits like “Because the Night” and “Dancing Barefoot.”
