Beat the Heat

Skin survival for the fashion week flush

Skincare

Fashion week is one part glamour and nine parts stress—and you can see it in my skin! As the challenge of a crazy backstage schedule meets the end-of-summer humidity, my face becomes hot, red, and puffy. Not a cool look. This fashion week, I’ve got my arsenal ready.

At Home: Shiseido Ibuki Softening Concentrate ($24, shiseido.com) is a superlight lotion I massage onto clean skin every morning for about 60 seconds. The routine keeps puffiness at bay, and the formula leaves a glow but not a greasy film.

On-the-Go: Natural minerals found in Avene’s classic Thermal Spring Water spray ($9, aveneusa.com) help calm red skin. I’ll be whipping out the mini canister between shows for a quick cool down.

Professional Help: My fellow flushed friends will find their beauty mecca at VMV Hypoallergenics on Crosby Street in SoHo where the Red Better products are used during the Red Better Oh So N-ice Facial ($135, vmvhypoallergenics.com) at the upstairs spa. Every product in the treatment is designed to soothe inflammation and massaged into skin using chilled glass rollers (or “ice globes”). Sixty minutes later, you’re one cool customer.
