[#image: /photos/5853c96a9c190ec57ac09cdd]|||||| Fifty artists were asked to reimagine and illustrate their home state motto—from Anne Mieke’s Washington illustration (Al-ki, a Chinook Indian word meaning “bye and bye”) to Aaron Draplin’s Oregon (Alis Volat Propiis, Latin meaning “she flies with her own wings”)—as a kind of designer atlas. The project, Fifty and Fifty, kicks off tonight with an opening party at the [Ace Hotel New York](http://www.acehotel.com/newyork/calendar) and will be on display in their gallery space through February 1st. For a sneak peek at the designs (or to buy a print…or 50), head to the [Fifty and Fifty site](http://statemottosproject.com/gallery/).
