The Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner

What: The Gordon Parks Foundation 2013 Awards Dinner.

Where: The Plaza Hotel.

When: Tuesday, June 4th.

Who: Seemingly tireless CFDA attendees, like Sofia Vergara, Olivier Theyskens, Karlie Kloss, and Constance Jablonski—possibly arriving just hours after leaving the Boom Boom Room or the Four Seasons restaurant—joined a visual and performing arts-heavy crowd including Bernadette Peters, Chuck Close, Lauren Hutton, and emcee Brian Stokes Mitchell. The evening honored Donna Karan, photographer Peter Beard, artist Carrie Mae Weems, and Kasseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean for their artistic achievements.

Why: Though Honorary Chair Bill Clinton, and co-chairs Alicia Keys and Karl Lagerfeld were MIA, the event was not without its highlights. Joanne Wilson was presented with an iconic portrait taken by Parks in 1956 of herself with her niece under a neon sign proclaiming “Colored Entrance.” The standing ovation throughout the ballroom was easily the most poignant moment of the evening.
