Ever since they walked down the Spring 2016 runway, Miu Miu‘s lace up ballet flats have been a must-have for bloggers, editors, and street style stars. Pernille Teisbaek, for example, is a fan, as well as Julie Sarinana. Thanks to these influencers, the shoes officially made it to the mainstream this summer and are flooding everyone’s feeds.
Retailing for $620 dollars, obviously not everyone can afford a pair, but DIY’ers have been showing off their own versions all over social media. All you need is a pair of flats, some buckles, ribbon, et voilà, you’re on trend.
The ballet flats were the perfect accessory to compliment a girly yet grunge collection from Miuccia Prada. They were paired with long tulle tutus and ribbon crowns, which were juxtaposed with boxy trench coats and black lipstick. In sum, the shoes embody hard and soft, proving that the ballet flat can always be à la mode, if you style them right.
Does this mean sneakers are out next spring?
