Piano Forte

On May 1, past and present will mingle at the much anticipated reopening of the Whitney Museum of American Art, with highlights from the permanent collection inaugurating the galleries of its new Renzo Piano–designed building. The institution’s move to downtown Manhattan has already inspired work, including Max Mara’s pre-fall collection, which draws on Piano’s design and the museum’s history. The brand has also collaborated with the starchitect’s studio on a handbag to mark the occasion. A high- profile commission, indeed.
