Don’t Miss: New Look

Brooklyn duo New Look's austere electro sound.

The Brooklyn band New Look, whose eponymous debut LP is out May 29, consists of the model Sarah Ruba, her husband, Adam Pavao, and the analog synthesizers they’ve been dragging around for more than five years. The couple’s austere electro-pop sound is rooted in those vintage instruments, which they use to evoke an eighties feel influenced by the likes of Prince, Sade, and New Order. “We don’t really listen to anything new,” confesses Ruba. But with her airy vocals and Pavao’s minimalist production, the music is decidedly modern. This approach extends to their personal style: The album cover (pictured) comes superimposed with a print from a vintage Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit they pulled from Ruba’s closet.
