A few days before new designer Sofia Sizzi’s fashion week presentation I was invited down to her showroom to preview her debut collection, Giulietta. Sizzi, who has worked in design at Gucci and Calvin Klein, wanted to create a collection “committed to Italian tradition and quality craftsmanship with a modern silhouettes,” all while embodying the spirit of the women that inspired her. Her fall inspirations came from 1960’s Italian classics like Federico Fellini’s “Juliet of the Spirits” and Mario Monicelli’s “The Girl with a Pistol,” in which actress Monica Vitti dresses in conservative black dresses that still appear current after all these years.
