Two bookish boys and Jazzelle from Detroit, who shaves her eyebrows with a men’s razor.

Designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow are known for casting the coolest emerging models, whether they’re “dazed” downtown DKNY girls like Dilone or Public School club kids and creatives like Tré Samuels and Noma Han. At the Public School Spring 2017 show on Tuesday, we spotted Jazzelle, 20, wearing an “Eat Pussy” shirt, and two bookish boys — one who loves anime and the other who’s writing a novel. Meet the emerging models below.

I like the way you spell your name. My dad was a jazz player and my mom wanted to model in Elle magazine.

Is this your first Public School show? First show, ever. I got signed like three weeks ago.

Has modeling always been your dream? I’m an artist too. I draw; I paint; I write. Right now, I’m mainly a club kid/performance artist/drag queen. Whatever you want to call it.

Where do you go clubbing? Mostly Flash Factory.

Do you bleach your eyebrows? Oh, no. I shaved them off.

Whoa! What made you want to do that? I kept bleaching them because it made it easier for me to transform into different characters. But then the bleach kept lightening my skin so I said, “F—ck it!” and shaved them off.

Do you shave them every day? Every other day with a men’s razor. Men’s are better and cheaper. It’s all a scam!

What do you think about Public School combining men’s and women’s this year? I think it’s really cool. Technically, I identify as female but I love switching between both. If someone were to call me a boy, or Sir, which has definitely happened, I never really get offended. It’s super tight that everything can be worn by everyone.

When did you cut your hair? Three weeks ago.

What made you want to get the look? I’ve always had bangs, but they started growing too much so I went with layers.

What are you reading? “The End of Satan and God” by Victor Hugo.

Light reading! Well, I’m trying to learn French so it doesn’t matter.

Do you like it? Yeah it’s nice, but it’s a little too…old man.

How would you describe your style? I really like anime so I mix that with the ’60s look.

What anime do you like? Pokémon and Mirai Nikki.

Name: Mikhael “Micky” Ayoub Age: 25 Hometown: Brazil Agency: Re:Quest Model Management

What are you reading? “Portnoy’s Complaint” by Phillip Roth.

And what do you think? It’s great. I’m slightly bummed I didn’t read it at a younger age, but I get what he’s trying to say. He’s one of the most influential American writers of the 20th century. He’s a cool dude too. Funny guy.

What do you do when you’re not modeling? I write. I’ve been working on a novel for about two years now.

Can I ask about what? Fuck if I knew. No, I’m kidding. It’s fiction. I also play music.

Do you write music? I do. I play guitar. I just put some music out.

Can I find your songs online? Yeah, it’s under Lake Him, which is an anagram of my name.

When did you get your ear pierced? I had gauges when I was a kid, but not too big because I knew my mom would shoot me in the face. I was with a girl and she wanted to get her ear pierced. She said, “You should do it too,” and I said, “Sure.”
