2017's hot new celebrity couple has taken their love overseas.
Over the weekend, Selena Gomez and Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, headed to Florence, Italy for a seemingly romantic getaway that involved a trip to the Galleria dell'Accademia, the museum that's best known as the home of Michelangelo's David.
The duo appeared hand-in-hand, much to the delight of other iPhone-wielding museum goers, as they perused the works of Renaissance artists like Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto, and Allessando Allori. Of course, the pair made a stop at the museum's main attraction, gazing upon the statue with their arms draped around each other.
Tesfaye later captured—and broadcasted to the world via Instagram Stories—his 24-year-old girlfriend taking in Sandro Botticelli's famous nude, The Birth of Venus. Another sure must-stop for the pair during their tour: the Accademia's newly opened Museum of Musical Instruments, home to the Grand Ducal collection of about 50 musical instruments, including a one-of-a-kind tenor viola made by Antonio Stradivari in 1690. Perhaps there will be some classically divined strings come Gomez's new album?
For her whirlwind afternoon of culture, Gomez dressed in a tiered floral-print dress by Vilshenko, a popular Russian label which has recently been worn on the red carpet by Poppy Delevingne, Florence Welch, and Anne Hathaway, and a pair of Charlotte Olympia heels. Later that evening, the singer switched into a more casual look of jeans and a Rodarte sweatshirt for dinner and a romantic stroll along the Ponte Vecchio.
The Italian weekend comes a few weeks after the duo were first spotted together leaving Los Angeles' celebrity watering hole, Giorgio Baldi. Last week, the pair, along with famous friends Jaden Smith and French Montana, also rented out a Dave & Buster's—an apparent new hotspot, given that both Drake and Khloe Kardashian have hosted their birthday parties at one of the arcade's many outposts.
Gomez and Tesfaye met at the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, where they both were musical guests. At the time, he was dating future Victoria's Secret model Bella Hadid, who had a cultural moment of her own this week, perfecting the art of protest in New York City with sister Gigi. As for Gomez's ex, Justin Bieber, well, he's had better weekends.
