Selena Gomez has been spending her summer wisely. Amidst all of the daily clutter—the nonstop coverage of her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber and his new fiancée Hailey Baldwin mixed with the occasional update of her ex-boyfriend Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) getting back together with Bella Hadid—Gomez has pushed everything aside to work on her album in peace, and spend quality time with her friends.

Apparently, according to her friends, the new album is Selena Gomez like you’ve never heard her before. In an Instagram Live video, the singer can be heard asking her friend Raquelle Stevens, “I’m just anticipating like what…I don’t know what people are going to think, like do you think they are going to think it is the same thing?”

While admitting that her new record will be “very honest, but playful,” Gomez also told fans that this new music she plans to release “later” will be completely different from her last album released in 2015 and the singles she’s released in between. And even though the singer kept squirming to tell fans that she wanted to play them a little tidbit of the album or at least talk about some song titles, Stevens convinced her to keep it all a surprise or risk getting in trouble for revealing too much too soon. One element that she did reveal, though, is the album’s subject matter, which focuses on “what was going on in here, which is a lot,” Gomez said, while gesturing to her head, just before revealing that it will also include a ton of collaborations with other artists.

And even though she “doesn’t like answering personal questions,” the pop star gave fans a little roundup of what’s been going on in her life (excluding any romantic revelations). “It’s fun, it’s cute, it’s sweet,” the singer said of her new Coach collection before diving into the other general life updates she was willing to share. “I finished my movie in New York…I turned 26. Apparently that means I’m an adult now, to some people. I got bangs, and I got earrings,” she said, before remarking that she’s also been sharing more photographs of her friends and vacation lately. It’s not often that the singer gets personal on social media, but these are the facts Gomez wanted her fans to know. “This is a very rare thing,” she told her audience on Instagram. “I think that’s why people are connecting.”
