Singita Sasakwa Lodge in Serengeti Northern Concession, Tanzania is one of only four lodges located on the private 340,000 acres acquired by Paul Tudor Jones, the American hedge fund billionaire. A passionate conservationist, Tudor Jones purchased the land from the Tanzanian government and converted it from a hunting reserve to a nature and wildlife conservancy. He then leased land to the South African luxury Safari hoteliers Singita. The main lodge here is built in the style of an Edwardian manor house, complete with high ceilings, grand furniture and silver ware. The colonial style guest lodges each offer separate living and sleeping areas, palatial bathrooms and private infinity pools. To add to the feeling of having it all, onlyvehicles associated with the Singita lodges are allowed to do game drives in the conservancy, ensuring an incredibly pristine safari experience. (At Serengeti National Park, lines of vehicles six-deep may stop for a single lion or leopard sighting.)

But don’t try this on your own—booking one’s own safari can be laborious, overwhelmingly time consuming—and confusing. The best way to book this and other unforgettable experiences is through Micato an East African family owned-and-operated business which first started in Nariobi as transport company in the late 60’s. Today, Micato is a leading luxury safari company that creates the ultimate bespoke safaris in East Africa— from setting you up with a guide who will meet you at the Nairobi airport and fly with you to the camp; to equipping you with stamped postcards to mail back home. That’s why celebrities like Natalie Portman, Will Smith and George W. Bush are all fans.
