Being the true New Yorker that she is (her fall 2010 collection was inspired by the gritty and urban sides of the city, i.e. graffiti and fire escapes), Nicole Miller knows how to make a fast getaway when needed. Quick fix number one? Her Sag Harbor home on the water, where she can be found waterskiing and wakeboarding during summer months. Yet when her line keeps her landlocked, the designer has plenty of haunts — not to mention garb — to help her beat the heat.

What outfit will we most likely find you in this summer? My wetsuit.

And when you’re not wearing that? Either my tidal pleat shorts and georgette blouse or my cotton and metal biker jacket over a dress.

Is there something you cannot live without during hot months? My Billabong camo surf shorts.

What bag do you like to carry? A George, Gina & Lucy olive drab tote.

Favorite shoes? Flat suede boots from my resort collection and/or Minnetonka moccasins.

What helps you stay cool during the sweltering heat? A hat!

How do you like to spend your summer evenings in New York? Theater in the Park — I loved seeing “Hair” there last summer. Also, outdoor cafes in TriBeCa, Dumbo and the Lower East Side.

Other than Sag Harbor, what are your upcoming travel plans? Looks like Rome this year…
