The One That Got Away

Vestiaire Collective is reuniting shoppers with their long-lost loves.

Everyone has something (or several things) that they wish they had bought. Even fashion insiders like Suki Waterhouse. The It girl and Burberry model has been lusting after an Alaia dress from the ‘80s that she once saw. “It was body con and just amazing,” she says, “but a little torn and expensive, so I didn’t buy it.” Julia Restoin Roitfeld is in the same boat. “My piece that got away is the Balenciaga beach bag. Every time I see it on someone I’m so mad I didn’t get it, because it’s kind of the perfect beach tote.”

Vestiaire Collective, the cult-favorite, Paris-based e-commerce destination, is hoping to reunite these shoppers with their dream items with a new service, appropriately titled The One That Got Away. Users, both famous and not, will be able to post pieces that they are looking for on a community board in hopes that someone with that item will see it. Just in time for that perfect holiday gift—for yourself.
