‘Black-ish’ Star Yara Shahidi Is a Flapper from the Future in Schiaparelli Couture

Gravity-defying fringe and a strong shoulder.

After the Golden Globes each year, the night’s honorees (and the rest of Hollywood), sufficiently wined and dined, head out for a night on the town — sponsored, of course, by each of their respective networks and distributors. Netflix, Amazon Studios, HBO, and more all hosted blowout parties attended by the film and television stars that populate their cinematic worlds. Warner Bros.’s annual party also attracted a glittering array of stars from both screen and beyond — everyone from runway legend Naomi Campbell to Christina Ricci to up-and-comer Zoe Deutch walked the red carpet. It was Black-ish’s teen star Yara Shahidi who caught our eye, though, in a shimmering, tactile Schiaparelli design. (Earlier in the night, her co-star Tracee Ellis Ross won her first Golden Globe, to the collective delight of Twitter.) The night’s red carpet theme might have been classic silver and gold metallics, but Shahidi’s rose gold was a 24k win.

Who: Yara Shahidi.

When: Sunday, January 8.

Where: Warner Bros. Studios’s 18th annual afterparty for the Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

What: A minidress by Schiaparelli’s haute couture studio in metallic pink tulle fringe with gold leather cap sleeves and a patched fur coat with teal, pink, and metallic panels, paired with burgundy suede t-strap heels.

Why: Yara Shahidi lifts off in a futuristic flapper look. The rose-colored fringe of this Schiaparelli design swoops to the left in an elegantly windblown manner, lending motion to the look (and defying gravity in the process). Gold leather cap sleeves give a strong, cyborg-esque shoulder to the look, while a fur coat, styled nonchalantly off the shoulders, softens it up again. At just 16, Shahidi is already proving herself a style natural, combining opposites to create perfect, party-ready ensembles. In this Schiaparelli look, soft meets hard in the most playful way possible — just the thing for a night on the town. Someone get this girl a Golden Globe already.
