Sean O'Pry

Sean O’Pry has long been one of the world’s top ten male models, if not its top dog, once described by M magazine as “The Handsomest Man in America.” You may know the 26-year-old Kennesaw, Georgia native from campaigns for everyone from Versace and Calvin Klein to Hugo Boss and Armani, but what you may not know is that he’s obsessed with puppy Instagrams. The face of two men’s scents (Paco Rabanne 1 Million and Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb) loves his fragrances, too, and he was on hand Tuesday night to present the Bath & Body Line of the Year at the Fragrance Foundation Awards at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. H let us interrupt his meal (with girlfriend Samantha Gradoville) so we could find out how he looks so darn dashing.

What was your first fragrance memory? My dad’s Calvin Klein Obsession and Ralph Lauren Polo Blue.

Did you steal them from him? It was one of those bottles that you have to pour in your hand before you apply and I knocked the cap off and poured it all down the sink.

Did he get mad at you? Oh, yeah. I was five.

That’s a little young, but when did you start wearing fragrance? Or did you wear fragrance at five? Were you that precocious? I was just that sneaky around the house. Anything that they told me not to touch, I touched.

And what about when you were in your teens, what did you wear? oh, you’re going to embarrass me…

Oh, come on. Everyone’s first fragrance is embarrassing. It’s a rite of passage. Abercrombie & Fitch. Middle school through high school.

And did you save your own money to buy it? I did. At the Abercrombie & Fitch store. That was my first job. I was an Abercrombie & Fitch salesman.

Very cool. What do you wear now? I mix it up every so often. You know, I’m the face of Paco and Spicebomb. But lately, the fragrance that I just lost that I love was Irish Tweed.

By Creed? What do you mean you lost it? No, the airport security took it from me because it was too big. I was like, “Come on, guys…”

They don’t care. But you know what? I happen to know someone at Creed. Let me see what I can do about that. Where do you get your hair cut? Usually on jobs.

What do you shave with? O’Pry: [turns to girlfriend]: What do I shave with? [to me] She just got me this incredible product. Vichy? Gradoville: It’s like anti-irritation. It’s a French brand. O’Pry: You can just say Barbasol. I use Barbasol, too.

If we pulled back your shower curtain, what would we find? La Roche Posay Effaclar Foaming Cream, Old Spice Pure Sport Shower Gel, Kerastase shampoo and conditioner. [Gestures to Gradoville] She’s really upped my game. Everything was a 3-in-1, hair and body stuff before her.

You guys live together? No. We each have our own place.

But she’s upgraded what’s in your shower, clearly. Did you meet on the job? O’Pry: No. Gradoville: Well, I was working. O’Pry: I wasn’t working. I was going to see this girl work.

Bold move! What beauty looks on women do you love? [gestures to Gradoville] Whatever you call this.

Ah, chivalry. What beauty looks on women do you not get? So many! Nah, women are all beautiful in their own way.

Smooth. What are you currently obsessed with? It can be anything. But not Samantha. Anything? I drive a lot of cars. I just drove a Ferrari. I restore my own cars, too. I have a 1970 Chevelle and a few others. I like driving all cars.

Do you go to race tracks? Yeah. I’m part of the Classic Car Club in New York. Have you been there? You should go there. You can take any car. Like a ’56 Porsche. It’s incredible.

So you’re a member and you can drive all these cars? It’s like Zipcar with really, really nice cars. It’s for people who love cars. I also just made my own wine at City Winery.

What kind of wine did you make? A pinot noir. It sucks. I just didn’t do it well. It’s not that good, but it was my first time trying to make wine. I’m definitely going to try again. Groth is one of my favorite vineyards in Napa, so I’m going to go there and try again. I also love following puppy Instagrams. That’s what I do on Instagram most of the the time is stalk dogs. I stalk a lot. My Instagram is really boring for people [laughs].

You have to follow my dog, Remy. You like the way I just made this about me? I’m going to get into trouble… These are my Instagram posts. And this is me trying to grow a mustache. It didn’t turn out well.

Are you guys on Snapchat? I am, but I have like 40 followers and I keep it private. The industry doesn’t want to see what I’m Snapping. I’d get in a lot of trouble.

What was your favorite part of the Fragrance Foundation Awards? Were you pissed that Alec [Baldwin] mispronounced your name? I wasn’t pissed. But I couldn’t hold my tongue.

Pronounce it for me. O-Pry [rhymes with “fry”].

So I couldn’t call you Grand Ole O’Pry? Not anymore.

Am I not the first to make that joke? Oh, no. But it’s a space. “O” then a space. Pry. Is Remy going to follow me back?

I’ll ask her when I get home. She gets competitive with other models.
