Lily-Rose Depp Does Sci-Fi Dressing, Chanel Style

Lily-Rose Depp’s latest film finds her playing an alien who has to deal with the sudden onset of human emotions. It promises to be an absurdist, highly stylized ride—and Depp has just the Chanel dress for the occasion.
On Sunday night, the 27-year-old actor attended the premiere of her upcoming sci-fi movie Alpha Gang at TIFF in a dramatic drop-waist number from Chanel’s Fall 2026 collection. The pale yellow frock melded period dressing with exacting modern simplicity. Featuring a scoop-neck design, the long-sleeve gown hugged her torso and accentuated her hips with bulging side ruching that cascaded into an avant-garde bubble skirt. To accessorize, she wore a series of high jewelry pieces, including Chanel’s Dazzling Star earrings—which feature over 102 diamonds and reference Gabrielle Chanel’s eternal affinity for star motifs.
The ivory ensemble, originally presented as part of Mathieu Blazy’s fall 2026 collection, played with a series of references. As Blazy’s sophomore ready-to-wear offering, Chanel fall 2026 continued his singular reimagining of house codes, from riffs on tweed to exaggeratedly 1920s-esque low waists. Standout styling details, like hair streaked with silver dye and shoes adorned with sculptural embellishments, brought the show into otherworldy territory. For Depp, who opted for Old Hollywood curls and tonal white heels, the dress is both a nod to her Chanel It-girl status and her experimental new role.
Alpha Gang, directed by brother David and Nathan Zellner, is a comedy that puts a touching twist on the alien-invasion trope. It follows a group of extraterrestrials who dress as a ’50s-era biker gang and are on a mission to conquer Earth. Their plan goes awry, however, when they start to experience the complexity of human emotions like melancholy, intimacy, and love. Blazy’s time-warping vision for Chanel, which pulses with lived-in intimacy and beloved oddities, is perhaps the ultimate pull for the premiere.
