Aside from a few mentions in acceptance speeches and the rare public appearance together, actress Brie Larson and musician Alex Greenwald have kept their relationship on the down-low. Until today, that is: Larson’s rep confirmed Monday that the couple are engaged, sparking much curiosity about the Oscar winner’s future husband. Though perhaps most recognizable as the singer of Phantom Planet, the band behind the theme song for everyone’s favorite early-’00s teen soap The O.C. and that once boasted Jason Schwartzman as its drummer, he’s bounced between gigs over the past 20 years; Phantom Planet went on hiatus in 2008 and, while there were whispers of a reunion circa 2011, no new material has come of it. Since Phantom Planet’s inception in 1994, Greenwald has worked with Mark Ronson (and his band, The Business Intl); he appeared in Donnie Darko and in a handful of M83 music videos; and he co-founded the band JJAMZ — now Phases — with ex-Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel. But more importantly, he’s Brie Larson’s boyfriend — excuse us, fiancé.
