“I found this plastic rose at the new Dover Street Market in Tokyo. It was the size of a car! I would love to have it in my house, but I didn’t ask if it was for sale. I thought it was too much to travel with…”
“My suitcases are covered in stickers. I bought this one without knowing what it said. My friend told me it reads ‘I Love Tokyo.’ I think it’s going on my phone. It needs a privileged place.”
“I was walking like a New Yorker here—you know, where you don’t look around. And then I was like, This is crazy! And I looked up and took this picture. It’s just so iconic.”
“Zac Posen recommended this store called Cow Books. It’s a tiny shop, and I only found it because it has this cow in front (above). I still don’t know why it’s called Cow Books. I love the Japanese, but they are really bizarre.”
“I was in a mall in Tokyo, and there were all these Harajuku girls, so I asked to take a picture with one of them—and five came over. They’re like living dolls, even in their attitude.”
“While I was in Japan, I used this bracelet by the designer Wilfredo Rosado at a shoot. It’s made of gold, diamonds, and feathers. If you had a couple of these on, you could fly away.”
“The Dover Street Market also has a vending machine that sells T-shirts [left]. I kept seeing this one [far left] that looks like a Damien Hirst sculpture—except instead of medicine there’s soda.”
“This 100-year-old kimono was a find at a really traditional store. The lady there tied the back into a bow like I’ve never seen before. I wanted to wear it in Cannes, but I couldn’t because I didn’t have her with me!”
