Gio’s Journal: Dressed to Thrill

For W’s glamorous globe-trotter, Giovanna Battaglia, it’s a fab, fab world.

“Every season, Italian Vogue does a Who Is On Next? showcase of young Italian designers. The handbag maker Benedetta Bruzziches was a finalist. This pyramid of her bags reminds me of the fairy tale The Princess and the Pea.”

“I was with Elena Perminova and Leigh Lezark waiting to say hi to Giambattista Valli after his show, and we realized that all our outfits were so graphic.”

“This is a collage of some of the boards from the runways I went to in Europe. I wanted to guess how many looks I saw on the catwalks. It would make a fun game, no?”

“Backstage at the No. 21 show, my photographer friend Giampaolo Sgura ran into the model Anne V. She was so happy to see him that she hugged him even though she was naked!”

“At the Première Vision fashion fair in Paris, I came across these Mojito shoes by Julian Hakes London. They’re perfect for the spring season, and I love that they’re so futuristic! Though I have no idea how you would walk in them.”

“Thanks to Dior, I went to a private viewing of the Musée d’Orsay’s exhibition ‘Impressionism and Fashion,’ where many paintings were shown with an accompanying dress. Of course I wore a gown and posed in front of one of the pictures like I was the woman in the painting.”

“MAC Cosmetics had a ball in Paris. The theme was ‘smoky eyes,’ so I had one of their makeup artists do my face. I’m wearing a Comme des Garçons jacket and a Dolce & Gabbana skirt. I’m a fashion bat!”
