“I was at my jewelry-designer friend Deborah Pagani’s house in New York, wearing a dark green Lanvin skirt and a green Equipment shirt. I saw this chair and thought, Okay, I want to have one of those portraits with a drink, like an old-school New York lady.”

2

“Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana took me to this ceramics store in Taormina, Sicily. I was wearing a Dolce & Gabbana zucchini-print jacket, and I realized I blended right in!”

3

“Someone had these on a shoot, and I was like, ‘What are those?’ It turns out they’re amazing silicone pieces to help fill out the models’ boobs. They come in a Chinese-takeout container! I need to buy a pair for myself.”

4

“These are minaudières from Jason Wu’s 2013 resort collection. I loved them individually, and then I saw they came in multiple colors, so I started styling them on his counter. Don’t they look like very nice Legos?”

5

“I was working with this new model, Daniela Braga, who’s in the fall Givenchy campaign. She has such a great spirit. I was taking some candid photos of her and said, ‘Oh, Daniela, you can do better than that!’ So she made the face in the last shot [near left].”

“My friend, the writer Erin Hazelton, gave me this book—it’s based on a show Diana Vreeland did at the Met. It’s really hard to find. I don’t know how she got it!”

7

“The courtyard of the San Domenico Palace Hotel in Taormina has these bougainvillea plants. I loved them so much, I had to pose for a picture. It’s very Alice—or Gio—in Sicilyland, no?”

8

“This flower chair at a store in Sicily immediately caught my eye, but I didn’t know if I should buy it. So I had Coco Brandolini [right] and Tabitha Simmons [left] test it out. It looks like a photo-booth session!”

“Margherita Missoni had a picnic lunch after her wedding this summer in Varese, Italy. When everyone left the tables, someone said, ‘Oh, you look like Talitha Getty’— she was always the bohemian on the floor. So I had my hippie-chic moment in a vintage Geoffrey Beene dress.”
