Gio’s Journal: Stars & Stripes

For W’s glamorous globe-trotter, Giovanna Battaglia, it’s a fab, fab world.

“Last year at Cannes, Ronnie Madra and Richie Akiva had the best party in a house they rented, and I took a picture with a stuffed zebra [inset, above right]. They threw a bash again this year after the amfAR dinner gala, and I reconnected with her [left]! She’s the party zebra—the world can fall apart, but she’s still there.”

“When I was at Monte Carlo’s Sea Lounge for the Grand Prix, there were suddenly these umbrellas—at first, I thought it was raining, and then I saw all the champagne being sprayed. People needed to protect themselves!”

“Moschino is coming out with a teddy bear iPhone cover, so they sent me a picture of it with a bigger teddy bear. It’s so cute!”

“This clock in my room at the Ritz in Paris reminded me of the one in Beauty and the Beast—so I put a Bulgari bag on it as a hat, along with Tom Ford sunglasses, Prada earrings, and a vintage necklace.”

“Since I had styled the clock at the Ritz [left, below], I didn’t want the chair to be sad, so I put my skirt and shirt on it while getting ready and thought it looked so funny—like it’s wearing the clothes—so I did that with each outfit. Pretty soon, every corner of my room was photo-shoot-ready.”

“This is DJ Julio Santo Domingo and his girlfriend, Lucrezia Buti, at a party at Sea Lounge in Monte Carlo during the Grand Prix. Lucrezia was still wearing her noise-canceling headphones from the race—maybe because she’s such a faithful girlfriend. Like, ‘I can’t hear music from anyone except Julio!’ ”

“Here I am with my boyfriend, Vlad, and Karolina Kurkova and her husband, Archie Drury, at the amfAR dinner. This was around 7 p.m.—so, like, 12 hours before the zebra encounter.”
