John Varvatos Asks, Why Can't a Guy Wear a Leopard Coat?
“There’s a part of a guy who has a moment, and sometimes it’s only once in a lifetime, where he feels rebellious," said John Varvatos on Thursday night after his latest show at the Diamond Horseshoe nightclub. "He feels like he has this wild spirit. Why can’t you wear a leopard coat? Why can't he wear these boots?" Indeed, models walked the runway with big, teased out hair with a collection that had an emphasis on statement coats (yes, many in leopard), as well as classic tailoring. As to whether the current political times are making Varvatos feel a bit more rebellious than usual, he says the mood hasn't effected his design voice as much as his actual voice. "I can’t talk anymore because that’s all I’m talking about," he said with a hint of hoarseness. “You can’t design around politics really, but what you can do is talk to these guys that are in the show about making statements on their own and using their voice besides being a model.”
