In thinking about the spring collections, the most vivid image that comes to mind is the opening look at Marc Jacobs: a striped T-shirt worn as a simple tunic top by newcomer Ruby Jean. It set the tone for a season that’s filled with punchy colors, graphic prints, and a slew of op art patterns. Whether it’s Michael Kors’s rugby-stripe knit shirt and pleated skirt or Proenza Schouler’s collage dresses assembled from photographs of protesters and people in a swimming pool, these are strong, streamlined pieces that command attention. Indeed, Fendi’s new tote, which comes with a classic Baguette attached in traffic-stopping red and orange, got mine. Two bags in one? Now that’s a bright idea.
