Monse’s Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia are New York Fashion Week’s Dynamic Duo
Few young designers have New York fashion’s attention quite like Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia. After their ambitious Fall 2017, when they staged their Monse and Oscar de la Renta shows back to back, the question before their Spring 2018 show on Friday afternoon was: What will they do next? Known for its youthful approach to uptown dressing, Monse’s new collection—sponsored by The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card—was Kim and Garcia’s take on Americana, featuring the duo’s signature men’s classic shirting motifs, handkerchief dresses, sequined evening-wear, and sophisticated joi de vivre, especially on display in the Monse-branded tanks and the starry night finale dress. Unfolding in a basketball court at the luxury apartment building The Eugene in midtown Manhattan, the collection was paraded by upbeat models before a front row consisting of predictably pretty young things—Sofia Richie, Jaimie King, plus Paris and Nicky Hilton, Kate Bosworth and Nicki Minaj—ready to pick out their next fierce looks for a gala at The Frick, or at a Knicks game.
