Just two months after their debut show for Oscar de la Renta, Monse designing duo Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim are back with a brand new collection for the storied house: Spring 2018 bridal. On Friday morning, the pair took over The Morgan Library and Museum in Midtown Manhattan to present a parade of 31 aisle-ready looks. For their debut foray into bridal, Garcia and Kim kept things traditional, presenting in a strict palate of stark white with an emphasis on tulle ball gowns and floral embroidery. But there was also an element of cool sprinkled throughout the show, an unsurprising direction for those familiar with the Monse label: a suit paired with a sequined cummerbund, originally shown on the Fall 2017 ready-to-wear runway, was reimagined in white and silver and a highlight of the show, while a mid-length white tulle and horse hair skirt, featuring de la Renta’s signature embroidered on the front, was topped off with a white denim jacket embroidered with “Just Married” on the back, finally answering the question: Can a bride wear denim? In the world of Garcia and Kim’s Oscar de la Renta, she sure can. Here, a backstage look at the collection.
